Each rod rotates on a crank journal via a pair of rod bearings. While the rods are designed for durability and performance under high-stress conditions, it’s the bearings that often dictate service life under aggressive use.
Maintenance-wise, rod bearings are wear components and should be inspected or replaced at regular intervals, especially in engines subjected to track use or sustained high RPM operation. Signs of bearing wear include knocking noises, reduced oil pressure, and metallic debris in the oil.
