It is necessary to change the water pump and timing belt for a Honda NSX because these components are integral to the proper functioning of the engine. The water pump circulates coolant through the engine to keep it from overheating, while the timing belt synchronizes the rotation of the crankshaft and camshaft, which controls the timing of the engine’s valves. If either of these components fail, it can cause serious damage to the engine.
The timing belt is typically made of rubber, which will degrade and wear over time, especially if the car is driven in hot or cold temperatures. If the timing belt breaks, it can cause the engine valves to collide with the pistons, causing severe engine damage. The original timing belt cover won’t work with this water pump, but don’t worry; Honda has also included a timing belt cover in this set that will fit perfectly.
The NSXs’ water pumps need to be replaced every 90,000 miles or 144,000 kilometers.
